Modern washing machines have so many parameters and functions that it is easy to lose your mind when choosing. Layfhaker asked a specialist in the field of sales of household appliances and a repairman to tell you what to look for in order to find a suitable and reliable model.
Wash, spin and power class
In 1995, the Common European Standard was introduced for labeling the characteristics of washing machines. The efficiency class of washing (or washability) is A, B, C, D, E, F, G and is determined by comparing the performance of the test machine with respect to the performance of the reference machine.
Reference machines are produced only by specially authorized manufacturers and their characteristics strictly comply with the norms of the European community.
A specially contaminated reference linen is placed in the reference and test machine, the reference rate of the powder is filled (usually 180 g) and the corresponding reference washing cycle is turned on. The laundry that has been washed in the test and reference washing machines is compared to each other using a special optical device.
According to this classification, the characteristics of energy consumption, spin class and wash class correspond to the letter “rating” from A to G, where A denotes the best indicator in this class, and G – the worst. Some manufacturers also add noise and vibration characteristics.
Washing efficiency classes correspond to Latin letters:
- A +++ / A ++ is the best indicator in this class;
- A + / A – “excellent”;
- B – “very good”;
- C – “good”;
- D – “satisfactory”;
- E – “mediocre”;
- F – “unsatisfactory”;
- G – “bad”.
Of course, this marking is conditional, however, and says a lot.
For example, if the spinning class A is specified on the washing machine, the laundry is pressed at 1600 revolutions per minute and as a result it is almost dry. But in models with the spin class G, the laundry is squeezed out at 400 rpm and after that it will be wet.
In addition to additional functions, washing machines have separate systems for monitoring washing processes.
The Aqua Stop system will save the washing machine, neighbors and flooring. Using a series of sensors prevents the appearance of leaks, and if they occur – blocks the circulation of water flows.
ALC-system – automatic water control system. Regulates the consumption of electricity and water during washing, based on the volume and type of loaded laundry.
The automatic drum balancing system reduces noise and vibration of the drum, evenly distributes the loaded laundry.
The Aqua Sensor system controls the turbidity (transparency) of the water after rinsing the laundry. With its help you can save and reuse water after one rinse cycle.
S-System (Smart) foam control system helps to monitor rinsing quality. If there is a lot of foam in the laundry load, it will start the re-rinse.
How to protect yourself when buying
Be sure to inspect the washing machine. Make sure that there are no dents or scratches on the case: they may indicate problems during transportation. Check the completeness, test how the door opens and the drawer for washing powder opens.
In case of detection of problems during installation, the master will issue an act on the basis of which the store will replace the product. If you find flaws during self-connection, you will have to prove to the seller that they are not the result of your wrong actions.
